The American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) is a high-visibility effort to address global warming by garnering institutional commitments to neutralize greenhouse gas emissions, and to accelerate the research and educational efforts of higher education to equip society to re-stabilize the earth’s climate. The Presidents Climate Commitment provides a framework and support for America’s colleges and universities to go climate neutral. The Centre for Sustainable Futures (CSF) based at the Univeristy of Plymouth, aims to put Sustainability at the centre of the thinking and doing of the University and also the wider national and international community. This website itself, is an example of sustainable practice by being created using open-source technology accessible to anyone in the world. The aim of Living Sustainably: the Australian Government's National Action Plan for Education for Sustainability, launched in April 2009, is to equip all Australians with the knowledge and skills required to live sustainably. The plan has been prepared in conjunction with the National Council on Education for Sustainability by the Australian Government Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts.

In an effort to help its members learn from campus sustainability leaders across the globe, the Association for the Adavancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) is starting AASHE Bulletin: Global Edition, a semi-annual newsletter that will cover sustainability stories from higher education institutions located outside of the U.S. and Canada. AASHE invites press release and news article suggestions for inclusion in the first issue, which it hopes to release this summer. Topics will include green buildings; climate and energy initiatives, new educational programs, waste reduction efforts, and more. To submit an item for consideration, email a hyperlink to the news story or press release that is posted online to bulletin@aashe.org with the subject line, "global edition." The deadline for submissions for the first issue is July 15, 2009.

With a membership of over 260 universities and colleges, the EAUC is the environmental and sustainability champion within Further and Higher Education in the UK. The U.S. Department of Education has created a Green Ribbon Schools program to recognize schools that are creating healthy and sustainable learning environments and teaching environmental literacy. The new awards program will be run by the Education Department with support from the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Green Ribbon Schools program will recognize healthy learning spaces that promote environmental literacy and equip our children with the skills and values to win the future.
